This was even true during the 'golden age' (tm) -- I was struck, re-reading All The President's Men, how much more worried Woodward & Bernstein were about getting scooped by ABC than they were about bringing down the President. Just think if those kids could have worked _together_ with their so-called "competitors" instead of _against_ them ...
