Nepal's ruling seven party alliance has asked the Maoists to immediately stop "abduction, extortion, and forcible indoctrination" and abide by the 25-point code of conduct agreement signed with the government.

"The Maoists should immediately halt their acts of abduction, extortion and forcing people to take part in their programme as part of indoctrination to their ideology," alliance leader and CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said at a function in Chitawan in central Nepal.

He said there was a need for extensive discussion and interaction in order to wipe out the Maoists' "mistrust" of the seven parties.

"The eight point agreement reached between the CPN-Maoist and the seven parties should be followed honestly in order to resolve the problems facing the country and to guarantee elections to the Constituent Assembly," he said.

Nepal also hoped that issues like the management of the Maoists' arms and ammunition could be resolved through mutual dialogue.

Another alliance partner, Nepali Congress (NC), took out a rally in Rajbiraj, an eastern Nepal town, on Sunday against the ongoing "forced donation drive" of the Maoists.

Addressing the gathering, NC central leader Padam Narayan Chaudhary said, "Maoists should abide by the 25-point code of conduct, and immediately stop their donation campaign." He also urged the rebels to return the seized properties of commoners, as they had agreed to in the 12-point pact. Meanwhile, Maoist chief Prachanda arrived in the capital yesterday for discussions with leaders of various political parties and said his party CPN-Maoist would honestly implement the agreements signed with the SPA.
