That's just it. The lurid and fantastic claims of self-promoting conspiracy theorists crowds out substantial research about real conspiracies and everday abuses of power. Soon the boundaries become blurred, and the public pushes it all aside. Meanwhile, in "progressive" media, the people claiming that Cheney blew up the World Trade Center in a "controlled demolition" elbow aside people researching agribusiness, the privatization of water resources, the disappearance of abortion rights, gay-bashing, vigilante attacks on immigrants, the criminalization of young Black men, global low intensity genocides, etc.
Conspiracy theorists serve the needs of the ruling elites, and cut off real radical activists of all stripes at the knees.
Ironic, no?
