I've been reading Russian philosopher/politician/showman/ideological chameleon/former National Bolshevik/public intellectual/cultural critique generally strange guy Alexander Dugin's new book on Russian pop culture and globalization, and it really strikes me how much he oddly reminds me of Zizek. The seemingly effortless segues between high and low culture, the ostentatious erudition, the showmanship... In just his 8-page chapter on Tatu (which I am translating just for kicks), he manages to work in Heidegger, Trubetskoi, the Luftwaffe, George Soros, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Arthur Rimbaud, Gay Pride parades, Keaunu Reeves, and a bunch of Russian pop figures no one here would probably know about (except Peter). It's really something to see.
Nu, zayats, pogodi!
