Yes, yes. The fact is that here in the U.S. I can be fired for being a
member of the Democratic party if the employer so chooses. Of course the
laws vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. But my recourse is mostly in
the courts, after I am fired, and mostly the argument in course is some
variation of a breach of contract claim. This is what is called at-will
employment. Gender, ethnic, racial, and religious discrimination is illegal
in the U.S., of course, but again all of my remedies are after the fact,
after I am fired.
I wonder why Pat Paulsen never ran for the Presidency of France? Certainly,
he was more amusing than Chirac.... And possibly he was even more French
than Chirac. I am sure we could have overcome that citizenship thing
somehow.
