Could you explain why (independently of what any particular philosopher has to say) "authenticity" is a useful concept. I've seen it invoked many times, and I've never really seen what was gained by invoking it.
I can understand, "X is an authentic Lincoln penny" or "X is an authentic drawing by Picasso," and other such propositions which involve a category which may include fakes. But otherwise I don't see its use.
