didn't suggest they made tons of money, but that plea bargaining gives them opportunity to represent more clients and make more money than if they were embroiled in lengthy trials...
in any event, about 75% of criminal defendants are represented by public defenders/court-appointed attorneys/legal aid society lawyers, conventional wisdom holds that low-income defendants get inferior representation as a result but research appears mixed on this matter...
