Legal service lawyers are dedicated professionals who do as good a job as possible given their caseloads and the kinds of limitations Charles spoke about. There a difference: in civil cases, outside a few contexts (labor dis0putes) you are not _entitled_ to an attorney, as in criminal contexts, so many poor people get no representation in such matters at all, and therefore rarely bring such cases. Lawyer's bills for even middle class and affluent people can mount quickjly in both kinds of cases -- I hear Michael jackson's broke and has to sell the rights to the Beatles music.

Btw I meant to say that ststute public defenders often have caseloads of 300, not just 30.

I am stlll steaming about Jenny's slur against the profession. Sure there are crooked, lazy, incompetent lawyers. And doctors. And businesspeople. And factory workers. And academics. And union officials. Despite the lawyer bashing the profession is no more crooked than any and less than some. You can say what you like, but gbut when the cops are on your ass, who do you call -- Ghostbusters? No, you call a lawyer. Or you are a fool.
