It wasn't just Opus Dei. It was my impression that the entire Roman
Catholic hierarchy in Spain supported Franco. I'd bet that a lot of
the rank-and-file priests and followers did too, since there was bad
blood between them and the left (and by extension, the Republic).
After all, the anarchists had a reputation (right or wrong) for
burning churches (for right or wrong reasons).
