So when you press the pedal with your foot, and the machine that you're being carried by responds in kind, and you feel the physical response of acceleration, your brain doesn't go 2 + 2 = I'm Making This Thing Go?

I feel the way you're talking about riding in an airliner seat or rollercoaster -- just along for the ride -- but driving a car (or bike or even Segway) completes the action-reaction cycle physically and psychologically for me. I've never wondered if I'm alone in this.

^^^^^^ CB: Being honest , no. It's just like I say above. I know the power and strength is not coming from me, so it's not "I" who is making this thing go. The power doesn't come out of my foot and go into the car. I really am not trying to rain on anybody's fantastic sensation. I've just never indulged the illusion myself, and that's my habit. But I am happy for those who do. You only live once.

I doubt you are alone in what you feel on this.

A bike is different since one does provide most of the power. However, bikes don't go tht fast, and it's hard work to go fast. Now running or hitting a baseball ( especially when I was younger).

That's you in the picture ?!
