Jon Ablewhite, John Smith Kerry Whitburn and Josephine Mayo were jailed for 
terms of between 3 and 12 years in May 2006, pleading guilty to blackmail 
following a campaign of intimidation against a farm that bred animals for 
scientific research.

The animal rights protestors had terrified local people with violent threats 
and lost national sympathy after they disinterred the corpse of Gladys 
Hammond, whose son owned the farm. Her remains have still not been 
recovered.
