Certainly, but you have to watch a lot of TV to find the gems. I came across this fantastic documentary type thing recently, about the children of immigrants being sent back to live with people where their parents came from. http://www.abc.net.au/tv/guide/netw/200610/programs/ZY8209A001D26102006T203000.htm

Then there's the occasional masterpiece like the BBC comedy series Black Books. Repeats of which are still showing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Books

The Sopranos is quite good, personally I am also quite fond of American comedy like The Simpsons and (a few years in the past) Married With Children. American comedy is generally speaking totally devoid of humour, but there are exceptions. You can also see a few good wildlife and current affairs documentaries crop up from time to time.

There is an enormous amount of absolute rubbish I grant you. But it probably isn't any worse than it always has been. Its just that you forget how much rubbish there was in the past and only remember the gems, which were actually few and far between in the past as they are in the present.
