So Chavez lovers, what of this article? This seems to be theme among stories about Venezuela: the poor are getting some redistributive boost from the state, but social and property relations are largely untouched--despite the rhetoric of Chavez that suggests otherwise. And it's not just the bourgeouis media, as I see more of this coming from left, internal and external, too. Are these merely disgruntled elements, groups wanting power for themselves? And how much longer does Chavez get a free pass from northern leftists? How much longer does someone who sounds essentially like FDR get held out as the revolutionary socialist ideal?
