Reading bound volumes of The Nation from the 50's recently, ran across prescient pieces by Bernard Fall from 1953 onwards on Vietnam. The mass market pb. "Vietnam, " edited by Marvin Gettelman, from 1965 or 1966 has pieces by Fall. Bernard Fall: Memories of a Soldier-Scholar by Dorothy Fall (Hardcover - Jun 2006)

Also worth reading on Vietnam, the many volumes by Joseph Buttinger who had been part of the Austrian Socialist resistance to Nazism.
