Excellent article. I think Altman was overrated and agree with with Walsh's key point about him: "His anti-establishment sentiment was as vague and unformed for the most part as it was sincere and deeply felt."

Still, I'm apparently one of the handful of people who enjoyed Altman's "Popeye," a unique film that did a remarkable job bringing Popeye's whimsical world of Sweethaven to life: <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popeye_(film)>
