I'd read only the first paragraph in the magazine and had enough. Browsing through a bit further I find this hallucination.
The trick he pulls on himself and his readers (or at least part of it) is beginning history with Reagan rather than with Carter. A word or two on Carter & Afghanistan would not be amiss. "Reality-based politics" is rich.
