UNSC urges DPRK to cancel nuke test http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/200610/07/eng20061007_309674.html

The United Nations Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted a presidential statement, expressing deep concern over the statement by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) that it would conduct a nuclear test in the future.

The statement said the Security Council deems that should DPRK carry out its threat of a nuclear weapon test, it would jeopardize peace, stability and security in the region and beyond.

"The Security Council underlines that such a test would bring universal condemnation by the international community and would not help the DPRK to address the stated concerns particularly with regard to strengthening its security," the statement said.

The Security Council urges the DPRK not to undertake such a test and to refrain from any action that might aggravate tension, to work on the resolution of nonproliferation concerns and to facilitate a peaceful and comprehensive solution through political diplomatic efforts, the statement said.

"The Security Council reiterates the need for the DPRK to comply fully with all the provisions of the Security Council Resolution 1695 (2006)," the statement added.
