Which does raise the obvious question who is and is not among Russian journalists vigorously condemning this assassination? Also said conversely, who among Russian journalists is not vigorously condemninig this assassination and attack on press freedom and what are we to deduce from a lack of silence on this point?

It's a little early, but I assume everybody will condemn it, as they did when Klebnikov was killed.. Luzhkov already has.

Oct 8 (Interfax) - Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov has been deeply outraged by the assassination of prominent Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, Sergei Tsoi, the mayor's spokesman, said in a statement on Sunday.
"Luzhkov has been deeply outraged and shocked by the fact that an honest journalist and also a woman and a mother has been killed," Tsoi said.
Luzhkov, who is on vacation now, said the Moscow government would provide all necessary assistance to investigative authorities to find Politkovskaya's assassins, he said.
The city government will also provide aid to Politkovskaya's family and will help organize her funeral, Tsoi said.
Politkovskaya was survived by her husband, a daughter and a son.
