They seem confused, ignorant and misinformed to me. They have this notion that the USA has invaded Iraq in order to bring decent, democratic government to the Iraqi people. The idea that if Democrats with military experience win, things may go better, Iraq may stabilize. It goes along with their perception that Iraq is a kind of democratic project. Whether the Democrats or Republicans win this election, this dominant ideological conception will be a convenient consensus card for the USG to play as it continues to occupy a place of dominant power over the second largest proven oil patch in the world.
