Actually it's a few pages from the chapter on the Terror in one of Sergei Kara-Murza's books (Kara-Murza being a left-wing writer close to the Communist Party). I have a lot of his books, though sometimes I think he may be slightly anti-Semitic. He's a Tatar by the way -- Kara-Murza is a Tatar last name, at any rate.
