Ireland has made the same decision (not surprising because Britain seems to have been fairly well dictating Ireland's immigration policies for some time). Ironically it follows on two reports issued by the European Commission this year which suggest, based upon data from the 2004 EU expansion, that such restrictions won't have a big effect on the *numbers* of immigrants from the new accession states, but will just ensure that a larger proportion of them are low-skilled and/or illegal.
It's interesting to note, in view of comments that were made here recently (I can't remember by whom) about the left in Europe being nearly as anti-immigrant as the right, that the left-wing parties in Ireland have opposed this decision (as opposed to the centre-left parties, i.e., Labour, who enthusiastically support it, and the Greens, who are fudging the issue).
