Uh, it's Wolcott. I think it's a joke, at least in part.

The reality-based portion of the joke, however, is that the "blue states" have lower divorce rates (and maybe murder rates, haven't checked it) than the "red states." Which is one reason why Garance Francke-Ruta astutely pointed out that "values" voters are voting aspirations (to prosperity & stability), not reality.
