I can't support this protectionism! If we want to protect our domestic pointless argument argument industry then we ought to do it by subsidising the export of LBO-talk disputes to other lists. We do pretty well in maintaining a positive balance of trade with PEN-L and PKT, but we need to develop new markets. There must be a whole world of as yet untapped mailing lists that would love to have a really nasty flamewar about American labour unions or the transformation problem and we're hardly making the effort at all. Surely if we adopt a policy of open boundaries and free trade, we could enjoy more and better pissing matches. Maybe I need to start posting to a few transhumanist and libertarian mailing lists again; those guys often have interesting and novel ideas about socialism.

best dd
