Give us back Alaska, dammit!

Seriously, Russia is to a large extent an empire than has converted itself into a federation, sort of as if the British Commonwealth were all one country. I have to think about that a bit more.

Speaking of the Russian Empire, I read today that some members of the Romanov family are attempting to get back some of the property the Bolsheviks appropriated from them ("no, you cannot have the Kremlin!"). If so, they may move back to Russia. That would be kind of cool in a way. I read an interview with Grand Duke Nicolas Romanov, nephew of Niki II, a couple of weeks ago. He actually seemed a rather likeable old chap.
