Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has opposed any coercive action against Tehran over its nuclear standoff, on Friday, met Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad and discussed bilateral and regional issues.
The meeting, the first of a series of interactions the Prime Minister will have on the sidelines of the NAM summit, took place just before the conference in Havana began. The meeting lasted about 10 minutes. The Prime Minister earlier said that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty Iran has all the rights to peaceful use of nuclear energy and equally has to fulfil all obligations under the international nuclear regime.
In case of any doubts on Iran's nuclear programme, the issue should be discussed and resolved through dialogue. There should be no coercive action, he said.
