I was not sure about my October travel schedule so initially I did not plan to attend, but now it looks like a possibility. I missed the paper submission deadline and I am a little bit put off by the apparent heavy pomo/culturalist bias of the plenary sessions, but I still think that face-to-face (as opposed to virtual) contacts and exchanges are important.
BTW, I think that imperialism and globalization are essentially a good thing for the same reason Marx thought capitalism was essentially a good thing - it clears the field of petty nationalisms and their institutional appendages and separatist identities, and moves one step closer toward a global governance system that is a necessary condition for socialism.
