<html>  I have seen Einstein's field equation rendered something like this:   R(ij) - 1/2g(ij)R = 8piT(ij) which I suppose isn't too bad as long as we are dealing with tensors that only have subscripts but what happens when we have tensors with superscripts, I suppose you could write one like this:   T^(ij).  Of course, tensors can have both subscripts and superscripts, such as with Christoffel tensors.  I would think that those would prove to be rather difficult indeed to render in ASCII in way that woud be legible to the reader.  Sir Isaac, of course, did not have to worry about such things.
