No, according to the 'Major Land Use in the US' survey, the ten per cent 'miscellaneous land' is not suburb/exurb, it is "cemeteries; golf courses; mining areas; quarry sites; marshes; swamps; sand dunes; bare rocks; deserts; tundra; rural residential; industrial and commercial sites in rural areas; and other unclassified land."
