What's theoretically possible isn't always politically likely and perhaps seldom so in the USA today. To recognize that, imho, is more politically responsible than to deny it. One of the reasons why anti-war actions went down after the beginning of the invasion of Iraq is that many people believed that they could prevent it from happening, so when they realized they couldn't, they dropped out of political action. (The same goes for voting for Democrats. With each election cycle, in which anti-war voters looked to the Democrats to bring the troops home, anti-war actions went down.) If possible, US leftists need to help Americans understand why they should get politically involved even though their actions may bear no fruit for some time to come and for some purposes -- such as preventing displacements of hundreds of millions in the global South, preventing deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, etc. -- no action can ever undo the damage that has been done. -- Yoshie
