I'm an angel when it comes to treating service workers with respect, but even I have my limits.

Actually, Greyhound ticketing agents aren't THAT bad.

I think that most of the things that piss us off when we interact with workers who work with the public stems from bad policies that they have to enforce.

Like the Earthlink customer service representative I had to deal with several weeks ago. I was trying to cancel some Internet service that my father signed up for two years ago and never used. We get broadband from Time Warner. I explained to the rep the situation, but then she tried to get me to switch our broadband service to Earthlink. I just wanted to cancel this unused service and get a refund, but she was obviously doing her job as a customer retention worker.

Or take the post office. I use a local post office on an almost daily basis. The counter staff are wonderful and pretty efficient. This is a suburban location, so one doesn't have to deal with the long lines of an urban post office. Still, the workers there have to deal with crappy policies, such as asking all of those dumb security questions. And then several months ago the lines grew longer because some bonehead politicians in Washington decided to require passports to travel to Canada and Caribbean islands. This created a new backlog at post offices.
