Those who planned the aggression do not count their success or failure in
the way we are doing it here. They feel they have eminently succeeded
inspite of the fact they may have to withdraw their troops, with a military
defeat like situation. They have destroyed Iraq for decades to come and
there by destoyed middle east's ability to fight US for a long time to come.
Iran will not be able to manatin any tangible threat to west no longer.
Failure or success of individual Presidents of whichever party of the time
is of no concern to this policy. Policy makers do not have any feelings
like shame or elation in such events . It is a juggernaught without qualms
or conscience. I do not think Presidents make any difference to this
situation and more often they just join the group and appear to be more
successful there by. If they oppose the establishment too much they land up
facing impeachment but they cannot influence the policy as such.
This group may think Vietnam was not a failure looking at the long term
results like collapse of USSR, and complete turn around of China away from
communism and enrolling of India into their camp. Even Vietnam is not at all
communistic!
