New York Dumps Capitalism, the State: 1st-Annual NYC Anarchist Book Fair to Open Sat., April 14
NEW YORK – Anarchism is in the news: From the US antiwar struggle to Latin American indigenous movements to animal rights and the battle to organize Starbucks workers, anarchists and anarchist-inspired organizations are changing the world's political landscape. New Yorkers will be able to explore the depth and diversity of anarchist life, theory, and culture at the 1st Annual, 1st Ever NYC Anarchist Book Fair, to be held Sat., April 14, 11am to 7pm at Judson Memorial Church in Manhattan.
Over 50 independent publishers, booksellers, infoshops, collectives, record labels, media creators, and labor and other activist groups will be exhibiting. The Book Fair will also include an anarchist art exhibition, plus a tour of New York University's renowned Tamiment Library. Twelve panels, presentations, and workshops will begin on Saturday at Judson, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and the AJ Muste Institute, and conclude the next day, Sun., April 15, at Sixth Street Community Center, 638 East 6th Street (between Aves. B&C) in Manhattan. All events are free of charge.
“This is about sharing the ways that people are finding to organize themselves and their communities without bosses, with capitalism, without the state,” says Pat Trinidad, a Book Fair organizer. “It's for you if you're an anarchist publisher, zinester, artist, or film/videographer; if you're an anarchist based in NYC and wanting to connect with other anarchists here; or if you're anarcho-curious and looking to find out more about the movement.”
The 1st Annual, 1st Ever NYC Anarchist Book Fair is cosponsored by the New York Metro Alliance of Anarchists and May Day Books and Infoshop. Food and free childcare will be available. For a full schedule of events and complete information on Book Fair exhibitors, visit http://anarchistbookfair.net/.
