HER: I think most evangelicals hate brown people. ME: Excuse me? Just who the bloody hell do you think attends the huge evangelical church around the corner in our overwhelmingly Hispanic neighborhood? HER: Well, those aren't really the people I mean when I say "evangelicals."
Good God almighty.
If people on the left who I actually like and respect can say such stupid things, maybe it's actually a good thing we aren't getting anywhere.
Even if that's not the case, such incidents certainly go a long way towards explaining the reasons WHY we find ourselves in this situation.
(And don't tell me that it's only my friends who are nitwits. A Google search for the word "evangelical" on alternet.org, commondreams.org, or huffingtonpost.com will quickly disprove that optimistic notion.)
