That may be an impossible question to answer right now, when both George W. Bush and Hillary Clinton are United Methodists. Many think it is a denomination on the verge of a split like the original mainstream/fundamentalist splits that created fundamentalism in the 1920s. And yet it's stayed on that verge for years and might not.
