It is funny you know. I grew up around American gun culture. My grand father was a cattle rancher out of California. He had everything from trail riffles to a 12.7mm cal ripped out of an A26 (his plane WWII). I shot small call rifles as a kid and have shot my friend's semi-auto big cal hand guns. Guns do not make me uncomfortable.

What does make me uncomfortable though is the thought of every asshole, including myself carrying one around a concealed hand-gun. I come from a place with one of the highest hand-gun deaths per capita in Canada (not Toronto) and I must say most incidents would not have ended in death save for easy access to hand guns.
