I remember when Hitchens first shocked me (I was much younger then) -- the
subject of the 19th century American Indian wars came up, and Hitch calmly
opined that wiping out the redskins was quite necessary for material and
political progress to evolve.
"But untold millions were slaughtered or displaced!" I said (still being
young and quick to alarm).
"So?" Hitch replied. "Good fucking riddance."
They were savages, they lived in trees, they were half-naked and primitive,
plus, they didn't write classic literature! So what good were they?
I should've suspected then that Hitch was on the colonialist nazi path
himself. But again, I was a dopey kid.
