Vietnam and Japan will facilitate their police forces exchange of information on terrorism and hi-tech and environmental crimes in an attempt to cope with the changing global criminal landscape.

The pledge was made between Japanese senior officials and Vietnam's Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh during the latter's five-day working visit to Japan that concluded on April 16.

While in Japan, Minister Anh met with Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso, Secretary General of the governing Liberal Democratic Party Hidenao Nakagawa, the head of the National Police Agency and the Chairman of the National Public Safety Commission of Japan.

Both the hosts and guest expressed their determination to increase efforts to further promote the Vietnam-Japan cooperation based on the Joint Statement "Towards a strategic partnership for peace and friendship in Asia" which was signed during Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung's visit to Japan in October 2006.

They also pledged to take concrete measures to implement agreements reached between the two police organisations.

During the five-day stay, Minister Anh and his entourage also met Tsutomu Takebe, President of the Vietnam-Japan Parliamentarians' Friendship League and former Secretary General of the LDP.
