Gravel spoke up for a particular type of consumption tax -- the so-called "FairTax," really a retail sales tax and the favorite of wingnuts.

[WS:] How is it different from VAT (or sales tax for that matter) that virtually every industrialized and semi-industrialized country on this planet has? E.g. EU countries have VAT that varies from 7% to 22% (luxury items are taxed at a higher rate). What is wrong with that?
