And hence my footnote.

There are two ways to look at anything we say: (a) we are so insignificant a faction that it doesn't matter what we say, in which case it doesn't, so what the heck, recommend whatever, or (b) we say these things because they have to be said, in which case we might as well say the whole thing: US sponsored UN intervention in Darfur, etc. Which is all another whole thread, of course!
