I have noticed this phenomenon myself. If you read the archives of a lot of purportedly left lists, you get the idea that they think of themselves as an bastion of goodness surrounded by evil "scumbags," by which they seem to mean right-wingers, libertarians, centrists, left-liberals, non-self-declared revolutionary socialists, and of course capitalists, all of whom are apparently racist (and sexist, and homophobic) in some ill-defined way. This covers pretty much the entire population except the members of these lists, and the amorphously defined "workers." If the workers do bad stuff, it's because they are being misled by the scumbags (just about everybody else). This is particularly weird for people who supposedly think that being determined conciousness.
What a distasteful bunch of people.
