Marx used to pore over The Economist in the reading room of the British
Museum in developing his analysis of capitalism. I don't know how anyone can
gather enough hard information and understand what is happening today
without paying careful attention to the material in the Economist as well as
the Financial Times and Wall Street Journal. Sorry to say the Nation,
Counterpunch, and International Socialist Review are pretty thin by
comparison; most of their writers, in fact, also get their information
second-hand from these sources and major dailies like the New York Times and
Washington Post..
