In light of President Bush's Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) meeting this weekend in Montebello, Quebec, The John Birch Society (JBS) offers an opportunity to interview John McManus, President of JBS. He'll help listeners understand the North American Union (NAU) and the SPP connection. John will be visiting Montebello this weekend and will attend meetings with various groups opposed to the NAU, including the U.S.-based Coalition to Block the North American Union, of which JBS is a member.

Contact me today to schedule an interview upon John's return next week. More info about the NAU follows below or also at www.jbs.org/nau.

Thank you!

Bill

What's happening at the closed SPP meeting?

President Bush is attending a meeting of the Security and Prosperity Partnership with the Canadian Prime Minister and the Mexican President this weekend in Montebello, Quebec. Suspicions have been raised regarding what is being discussed, since it is a closed meeting and since the SPP seeks to merge systems of the three countries. Rumor has it that the U.S. military will be on hand to enforce a border around the town. What's happening at the closed SPP meeting? This is the third SPP meeting in the last three years. All we are told is that security and trade issues are being discussed.

But if you visit the U.S. Commerce Department's official SPP web site (www.SPP.gov) and look to see all that it wants to accomplish, there's no way to achieve these goals without harmonizing the laws and regulations of the three countries...meaning a loss of sovereignty and eventually individual freedoms, much like what the European Union is undergoing.

The SPP was born out of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), which is documented to have cost more than a million American jobs. As many as 40 million more jobs could be lost in the next decade or two, due to free trade, of which NAFTA is a part. Work has already begun on highways (Trans Texas Corridor) that would link the three countries under the guise of free trade.

But don't take our word for it. Consider these statements from North American leaders: "As to what kind of [North American] union might there be, I see one based upon free trade, that would then entail commitment to markets and democracy, transparency, rule of law."-President George Bush (3/23/05)

"We are determined to forge the next generation of our continent's success.... The security and prosperity partnership that we are launching today is the road map to getting there."-Former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin, (3/23/05)

"Eventually our long-range objective is to establish with the United States, but also with Canada, our other regional partner, an ensemble of connections and institutions similar to those created by the European Union."-Former Mexican President Vicente Fox (5/16/02)

The Coalition to Block the NAU will hold a press conference Monday, August 20 at 11:00 am ET, at the Marriott Ottawa Hotel. John will be participating with Howard Phillips and Jerome Corsi (author of the bestseller The Late Great USA).

Since 1958, The John Birch Society, headquartered in Appleton, Wis., has been dedicated to restoring and preserving freedom under the U.S. Constitution. Members come from all walks of life and are active throughout the 50 states on local, regional and national levels. United by a strong belief in personal freedom and limited government, plus a sense of duty, members have played a continuous, pivotal role in halting legislation and federal policies that threaten the independence of our country and our people. Visit www.jbs.org for more information and see why The John Birch Society continues to fulfill its founder's vision of less government, more responsibility, and - with God's help - a better world.
