Persians don't appear to do punk all that well, and they are better at pop, rap, folk, and "alternative" (for lack of a better term) mixing rock with traditional musical elements, probably because they actually want to sing.

I've mentioned Yas (Iran) and Abjeez (Sweden) here. O-Hum's "Ghame Del" (Iran), Mohsen Namjoo's "Begoo Begoo" (Iran), Kiosk's "Eshghe Sorat"* (Canada), and so on are my recent favorites.

Radio Zir Zamin (Underground) at <http://www.zirzamin.se/> is also a good source for Persian music, from Iran and its diaspora.
