[lbo-talk] The act of making: Laws

I asked Barbara Boxer at a speech in Marin County two years ago what sources of news and opinion she read. She had to think a minute, then said "the Wall St Journal, the LA Times, and uh, our own wonderful paper, the Marin Independent Journal." Since the speech was about war policy and issues, I was thinking maybe she read Juan Cole, or CommonDreams or even The Nation. Nope. Nothing,

I decided Senators dont inquire beyond what the party leaders tell them. That way they have lots of time to read all the bills they vote on.

I once wrote to Barbara Boxer asking her to propose that every Senator certify under penalty of perjury that they have read a law in its entirity & understand the issues before they are allowed to vote. I never heard back from her.
