Yes, among other things. TV/film writing is the one area where reactionary cries about "liberals" and "socialists" are closer to the truth than not. Which is a good thing.

Not all writers are like that, of course (I've met/known my share of selfish pricks). But you'll find more socially-conscious scribes in Hollywood and elsewhere than you will in, say, the corporate news media.
