On hearing the news of Waterloo, Byron said something like, "It's a damn shame!" (Those were not his words, but that was the sentiment he expressed.) Have you read the Charterhouse of Parma. Napoleon personally might have been a first-class jerk, but on the question of whether or not he was a "threat to humanity simply by [his] continued existence" is it would seem debatable. Byron's judgment of his world is nto to be dismissed off hand.
