The studies were carried out on rats, it's still equally scary of course. The documentary also shows the mechanism by which the brand of GM corn incriminated in one of the studies was cleared for retail accross Europe: apparently, there were more than two choices in the motion presented to EU ministers on the decion. Even though a majority voted against (no thanks to the French minister, whose decision was determined by a deficient expert group that produced a bogus approval), there wasn't an absolute majority of no. This meant that the European Commission would decide, which it did in favour. Funny how Europe doesn't drag its feet after all when it comes to the stuff that matters.
