Politico is an operation staffed by veteran reporters, and ex-WPer Jim VandeHei has been around the block many times. They're aware of all the tricks. I think it's undeniable that at this point, the Republican party is a seriously damaged brand, something lots of Reps are aware of, and Hillary can raise buckets of money in a race with no spending limits.
I know it's annoying that there's so much talk of 2008 so early in 2007, but it's yet another sign that the political class thinks Bush is essentially over, despite the little detail that he still can start wars if he feels like it.
