BEIJING: China has executed an ethnic Muslim from the country's restive far west region for alleged separatist activities and for possessing explosives, a move slammed by Human Rights Watch (HRW) due to lack of evidence, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on Friday.
The United States government-funded broadcaster said that Ismail Semed - a member of the Uighur minority in the predominantly Muslim province of Xinjiang - had been executed on Thursday in the provincial capital of Urumqi, after being convicted in October 2005 of trying to "split the motherland".
It quoted his widow, identified only as Buhejer, as saying that Semed, who was deported to China from Pakistan in 2003, had told the court that his confession had been coerced. agencies
