Yeah, English profs tend to have a heavy workload, especially grading. Even so, it wasn't 24/7 during the semester breaks and summer, yes? All in all, working conditions are not that onerous for full-time, tenured faculty (don't get me started on the exploitation of part-time faculty; that's another story).
